Le Grand-Bornand
Discover the unique characteristics of the typical Aravis farm where cheese is still made today. The trail passes through alpine pastures, providing the opportunity to see and smell the wide variety of flowers that provide the famously distinct taste of reblochon cheese.
Start: Le Grand Bornand / Col des Annes Pass, 1720m
Tourism zone: Aravis
High point: 2003m

COL DES ANNES - INTERSECTION beneath GRAMUSSET: 1hr 25min
The trail starts behind several farms and starts its ascent through a pasture. Take this trail, which follows a portion of the “Tournette-Aravis” GR through-trail. The terrain is often slippery right after it rains, so be careful. The trail is relatively steep to the top of the Tête des Annes and the chairlift unloading station. You will be rewarded with fantastic views of the narrow valley leading to Les Confins. Head left and follow the trail that ascends just left of the ridgeline and that leads to Col de l’Oulettaz Pass. Avoid taking the much more dangerous trail that follows the ridgeline proper. On your left are views of several spectacular alpine pastures in the upper part of the valley that descends to Le Reposoir, a village in which an old “Chartreuse” monastery is located. Right in front of you rises the mighty Pointe Percée (2750 meters).
Next, pay extra close attention as you hike through several sections of limestone pavement; this type of terrain should be avoided when it rains or during periods of thick fog. Follow the GR trail markings. A directional sign points to hiking up to the Gramusset Hut, or hiking down to the Le Planet chalet and Les Confins.

INTERSECTION beneath GRAMUSSET - PLATTUY CHALET: 55 min.
Hike down the very pleasant trail to the Planet Chalet. Smile! Several families of marmots will be watching you with a wary eye from the safety of their burrows. After the farm in Planet, head right towards the stream. Just after the stream, the trail through the alpine pastures and follows the stream bed, passing beneath a field of wildflowers and spruce trees. The Plattuy Chalet overlooks the valley. A portion of the roof is covered in special shingles unique to the area referred to as “tavaillons”.

PLATTUY CHALET - COL DES ANNES: 1hr 15min
Above Plattuy, the trail meets up with a much wider path. Head left and hike down this path for roughly 300 meters, and then take the forest road that heads right and ascends towards Col de Borneronde Pass. This pleasant trail is lined with blackberry and raspberry bushes. When you reach another forest road, head right and hike up to the pass.
At Col de Borneronde Pass, follow the road tstraight back to Col des Annes Pass and your staring point.

Option: for a more athletic jaunt back to you starting point, from Col de Borneronde Pass head right and hike up the steep but pleasant trail that takes you back to the Tête des Annes (1km). From there, hike down to Col des Annes Pass via the same trail from the beginning of your hike.

This hike is from the Haute Savoie PDIPR (Regional Hiking Trails Department).
Throughout the year : open daily.
