Festival Au Bonheur des Mômes

"Au Bonheur des Mômes aims high and is not afraid to take risks" - Télérama
"As crazy as it is committed, we are far from the all-too-common mawkishness" - Causette
"Deliciously offbeat, awfully funny and above all of absolute tenderness" - Le Dauphiné Libéré
" Anti-bling, Le Grand-Bornand refuses to be a fool. Its success is due to a rare model" - Libération
A major event of the French cultural summer, Au Bonheur des Mômes and its programme full of audacity and sweet madness will once again shake up the more than 90,000 festivalgoers expected this summer in Grand-Bornand. A resounding success and a model of its kind, the European meeting of the performing arts for young audiences will titillate more than ever curiosity and open-mindedness around an artistic platform as playful as its ambition remains great, with respect for differences and living it together as the guiding principle(s). Challenging its world, "l'Avignon des enfants" will cultivate all week long during small and big joys during a last great break'... just to be a good "clown" before the start of the school year, since this is the theme of this summer ! Thursday, August 29th will be declared "Clown Day" in Grand-Bornand. Red nose and a rigorous scoundrel spirit, so for festivalgoers big and small, the hundred or so international artists and companies announced for more than 400 street performances, in halls or tents, as deep in the mountain pastures... it's going to make one of those hays again!
The most experienced will have guessed it at the wink of the artist Kaviiik - author of the famous festival posters - with this strange character tribute to the great Chocolate as an iconic figure in the 2019 visual: this 28th edition of the festival will honour the clown. Whether classical, musical, street, or even squeaky, the art of clowning goes far beyond what you think. "Neither tragic nor comical; he is the comic mirror of tragedy and the tragic mirror of comedy," as the author André Suarès wrote in his time. So much so that Thursday 29 August will be declared "Clown Day" in Grand-Bornand. Red noses and faces for everyone, therefore, in the tradition of the funny demonstrations' of which the festival has the secret, with as a high point the big parade which will see artists and public wearing a red nose of circumstance... as a way of "doing together, to go to the essential and the very essence of who we are: human beings, all the same", for the general and administrative director of Au Bonheur des Mômes, Isabelle Pochat-Cottilloux, who sees in this collaborative performance announced the brackets, saving, of a "race to singularization that is often individualistic, even excluding". Etymologically, the word "clown" means "unpolished", in English... "and it suits us, the mountain people! "teases the festival's truculent general and artistic director, Alain Benzoni. By summoning all the facets of a complex character to the Grand-Bornand, capable of currying up, gently but surely, "this world of barges", he promised a 28th edition that would be scathing and "above all, not too wise...".
