The only one of its kind in the world, the ” Parcours de l’Art Vache” (Cow Art Trail ) is an evolving, arty and offbeat experience that lets walkers appreciate the hundreds of works – paintings and sculptures – permanently installed throughout the village, maintained and regularly renewed by professional and amateur artists from all over the world. It’s a veritable open-air art gallery, offering a new, offbeat vision of Grand-Bornand’s “star” ruminant.
Between tradition and contemporary creation, Le Grand-Bornand cultivates a lively craft industry, to be discovered along the village streets. L’Augusta, a shared boutique, brings together ceramists, jewelers, textile designers and soap makers in a beautiful collective setting. In their workshop, the Martin family shapes clay with the precision of inherited gestures, while Didier Périllat perpetuates the skills of a skilled saddler. A few steps away, Pierre Amoudry opens his gallery to a pictorial universe rooted in mountain landscapes. Higher up, the alpine notebooks of Luc Périllat, Pierre Amoudry and Vincent Desplanche bear witness, through sketches and stories, to a daily mountain life observed at close quarters.
Hiking in front of the Aravis mountain range, skiing at sunset, enjoying the fresh mountain air while admiring century-old chalets, meeting farmers, guides and craftsmen and women, and enjoying a good farmhouse Reblochon cheese: these are all moments that make summer and winter in Grand-Bornand a unique experience… and help make it a place that belongs to all of us.
The BO! Life is good for body and soul!
… Unless you prefer the hustle and bustle of the “Au Bonheur des Mômes” festival, which for over 30 years has brought performing arts companies from all over the world to the alpine pastures, or of “La Source”, where nature and culture come together in workshops for a fun, offbeat family exploration of Alpine traditions, or of the many concerts and events that bring the village to life on long summer evenings.
