Safety and Code of Conduct
- All routes are used at the hiker’s own risk, as they are not monitored.
- Choose your route according to your fitness level and the weather conditions. Check the weather forecast (daily updates available at Tourist Offices or Chamonix Weather: 08 99 71 02 74) and remember to bring warm, waterproof clothing. Weather conditions in the mountains can change very quickly.
- Follow the instructions indicated on the signposts.
- Never hike alone.
- Do not set off too late in the afternoon to ensure you return before nightfall.
- In the event of bad weather or snowfall, some routes may be impassable (information available from Tourist Offices, ski patrols or guide offices).
- Do not use cross-country or downhill ski runs. Crossing the runs is permitted only at marked crossings.
- Take sufficient food and water with you. Mountain sports require a significant amount of energy. Mountain inns and high-altitude restaurants are available on some routes.
Please be mindful of the wildlife around you!
In winter, mountain wildlife is particularly vulnerable.
By following a few basic guidelines, you can help to protect it:
- Use the designated tracks and trails for snowshoeing.
- Avoid wooded areas.
- Respect sensitive areas marked by protective nets or ropes.
- Respect the environment
- Remember to keep your dogs on a lead.
