Le Grand-Bornand The village resort

Whether you’re looking for sport, nature or culture, everything here exudes authenticity, excellence and good living, just like the village centre with its beautiful houses clustered around the granary and church. The pastures cascade down to the typical hamlets and their 450 chalets, some of which date back to the 17th century, creating the perfect backdrop for discovering a well-preserved mountain with a strong character, a boundless outdoor playground where visitors and locals form a single, invigorating, open and happy community.

Le Grand-Bornand, the BO village! Live it up!

Facing the emblematic Aravis mountain range, Le Grand-Bornand cultivates that extra touch of soul that makes all the difference. Here, the authenticity of a true mountain village blends with the energy of a lively, friendly resort. From the timeless charm of the historic village to the century-old chalets of Chinaillon, not forgetting the Bouchet valley, a peaceful backdrop for Nordic skiing and a land of traditions, every corner of the resort exudes true mountain spirit. A land of champions and a land of events, Le Grand-Bornand brings together those who love the mountains, live them and share them.

Experience discovering a natural and cultural heritage

The limestone faces of the Aravis and Jallouvre mountains and the relief of Mont Lachat and Danay invite you to contemplate landscapes that are both wild and man-made. Over 160km of signposted footpaths link mountain pastures, high altitude lakes, forests and peaks, offering panoramic views from the Jura to Mont Blanc. Le Grand-Bornand is as much a place to discover as it is to contemplate. La Source, in the heart of an authentic farm, offers workshops, an educational farm and shows about life in the mountains. The Maison du Patrimoine, an eco-museum in a 19th-century farmhouse, passes on traditions and know-how. History is also expressed through the unique, evolving and quirky L’Art Vache trail. Let yourself be guided or explore the heritage trails, between ancient chalets and unspoilt hamlets.

Le Grand-Bornand, a history since... The dawn of time!

Before it became the resort-village we know today, Le Grand-Bornand passed through the centuries, marked by major clearings for crops and livestock, power struggles, the rise of skiing and the birth of Reblochon cheese. From the historic village of Chinaillon to the Bouchet valley, each place tells its own story of this mountain epic.

With its farming traditions, preserved natural heritage, old-fashioned know-how and tourism development, the area has achieved a unique balance between the past and the present.
