Go shopping at the Grand-Bornand market, one of the most famous in the Aravis region. Every Wednesday morning, alongside the stalls full of cheeses, charcuterie, vegetables and other local or manufactured products, you can meet the farmers of Grand-Bornand who, since 1795, have been delivering to wholesalers their crates of farmhouse Reblochons, the famous local cheese with a Protected Designation of Origin made twice a day on the farm.
Take the opportunity to visit the village’s artisan bakers Betemps and Vulliet to buy your bescoin. A purely local recipe as little known as it is ancient, bescoin – derived from the word “biscuit” – is a soft brioche bun with aniseed and saffron. The bakers will be delighted to tell you all about its history and give you their tasting tips.

2060 cows for just over a million inhabitants help to make Grand-Bornand the leading production area for the famous round cheese with its creamy hazelnut flavour, all year round. This is your chance to discover the different stages in the production of Reblochon cheese. From milking the cows to maturing in the cellar, the “cream of cheeses” so popular with hikers reveals the secrets of its inimitable flavour and texture during a final tasting session with the producer.

Plug into electricity and set off by electric bike to conquer the Col de la Colombière, a classic of the Grande Loop, via the south-facing slope with its 690 metres of ascent. Several sports shops offer bike hire.
Take a 2-hour walk along the mountain discovery trail to the Cuillery chalets. Learn about the flora and fauna along the path that leads to the traditional chalets in the hamlet of Cuillery, overlooking the Maroly valley and dominated by Pointe Percée.
