By the way, What is La Source?

La Source is the fruit of the deliberations of a steering committee that brought together the talents and skills of artists, residents and elected representatives of Le Grand-Bornand, technicians and members of the Association du Patrimoine Bornandin, who were able to respond to a number of issues in tune with the times.

tourism: by creating a business lever for the resort, by showcasing the cultural and natural heritage of the mountains and the Alps
educational: by offering children an original, immersive activity centre where they can learn while having fun
an artistic challenge: by serving the creative vocation of Grand-Bornand through cultural dissemination at local, regional and cross-border level
an environmental challenge: by promoting the mountain environment through the transmission of values combining sustainable development and heritage conservation
a social and participatory challenge: by fostering links between generations through the ongoing co-construction of the site by local residents, visitors and Alpe players

What's new to return to La Source all summer long!

Since the end of June, several new features have been added to the site, namely:

the creation of a new area dedicated to the mountains’ iconic birds;
the creation of a toddlers’ area in La Grange aux étoiles;
the installation of a new game of skill on the ‘giants’ footsteps’;
new sounds in ‘Le Nid’, a sensory space created from repurposed old cable cars, on the theme of pastoralism, curated by Christiane Dampne as part of the Isère-based ‘Ailleurs’ project , near the sheepfold;
the launch of a photography exhibition (until 20 August) entitled *On vous dit patou…* by Valentine Guerin and Ellen Teurlings, on the theme of patou dogs and aimed at raising awareness of the use of mountain pastures.

A new workshop for the little ones!

In addition to the traditional woodwork and miniature-making classes run by Sylvie Bries, visual artist and decorator for the Au Bonheur des Mômes festival, a new workshop, ‘Grain de sel et Fleurs sauvages’, has been specially designed for 3–5-year-olds, with the aim of enabling families to make their own rock salt infused with mountain herbs.Introductory sketching sessions are being run by Céleste Desplanche (as part of the 5th edition of Carnets d’alpage, from 25 to 30 July) and an ‘escape chest’ activity is also on offer, based on the theme of the mountains.

Through its century-old wooden walls, the Maison du Patrimoine invites visitors to step back in time and discover the traditional way of life of the people of Le Grand-Bornand.

Patinated by the years and by the inhabitants, it has retained all its charm and character.

The podcast

After the show, you can (pour)follow the experience as a podcast!

Spearheaded by Antoine Guillaume, associate artist and initiator of the project, in close collaboration with the Associative Life department of Le Grand-Bornand town hall, the Culture Heritage/La Source unit of Le Grand-Bornand tourism, Espace Grand-Bo and DOKA Production, “Paroles au Grand-Bornand” brought together several generations of local people over the course of 2025, with an artist from their village, to tell the story of their region (then and now).

The “Paroles au Grand-Bornand” project involved local residents and those involved in the cultural life of the village (schools, the Municipal Youth Council, the Bornandin Heritage Association, the Elders’ Club, Atelier à l’Envers, etc.), with a twofold aim: to understand where we come from, by collecting oral testimonies from our elders, and to think about the future by working with schoolchildren on a forward-looking project.

“Paroles au Grand-Bornand” began as a circus and documentary theatre show written and performed by Antoine Guillaume, accompanied by dancer and choreographer Mélanie Manoutsis, musician and composer Bertrant Boulot, and classes of CE2/CM2 from the Chinaillon school and CM1/CM2 from the St Jean-Baptiste school, before becoming a radio programme.
