Carnets d'Alpage: 5th mountain sketching event from 25 July to 30 July 2026

Carnets d’Alpage, the mountain sketching festival, is back in Le Grand-Bornand for its 5th edition, organised by the artist-sketcher trio of Pierre Amoudry, Vincent Desplanche and Luc Perillat.

From Saturday 25 to Thursday 30 July, professionals and amateurs of sketching and drawing from life will gather in Le Grand-Bornand for a special ‘Mountain’ session.

Would you like to hone your technique or simply learn the basics of sketching and drawing from life, amidst the magnificent landscapes and gentle slopes of Le Grand-Bornand?

Then this is the place to be!

On the programme: six days of supervised workshops for adults, children and families, “Let’s all draw together” sketchcrawls, exhibitions and discussions centred on sketching in the mountains.

The programme includes:

  • Saturday 25 July, Place de la Grenette from 2 pm to 5 pm:
    • Welcome for participants
    • Sketchcrawl “Let’s all draw together” (free entry)
    • Introductory workshop for families and children (free entry)
    • Table runner display and welcome drinks at Le Grand-Bornand at 6.00 pm, followed by a Groov’up concert at 8.30 pm
    • Specialist equipment on sale on site.
  • Sunday 26 July:
    • Half-day workshops for teenagers and adults from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm or from 2.00 pm to 5.30 pm (fee applies; bookings via https://carnetsdalpage.fr).
    • Table setting, ‘drink and draw’ at the Flying Pig bar at 6.00 pm
  • Monday 27 July:
    • Half-day workshops for teenagers and adults from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm (fee applies; bookings via https://carnetsdalpage.fr)
    • Sketchcrawl in Lormay from 2.00 pm to 5.30 pm (free; use of the free shuttle buses is recommended)
    • Table runner, drinks and drawing at the Auberge Nordique at 6.00 pm
  • Tuesday 28 July:
    • “Memories of the Alps” family workshop on the Rosay plateau from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm (free, access via the Rosay cable car)
    • Full-day workshops from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm (fee applies, booking required at https://carnetsdalpage.fr).
    • Table runner-making and ‘drink and draw’ at the Galerie de l’Esquisse at 6.00 pm
  • Wednesday 29 July:
    • Full-day workshops from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm (subject to a fee, booking required at https://carnetsdalpage.fr).
    • Table runner-making and ‘drink and draw’ at L’Esperluette at 6.00 pm (moved to L’Esquisse in the event of bad weather).
  • Thursday 30 July:
    • All-day sketchcrawl from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm at La Source (free entry for ‘Carnets d’alpage’ participants)
    • Workshops for children aged 6–8 from 10.30 am to 11.30 am (fee applies; booking required at lasource-legrandbornand.com)
    • Workshops for children aged 10–14 from 2.00 pm to 3.30 pm (fee applies; booking required at lasource-legrandbornand.com)
