Live the experience Tradition Escapade Day

A day of authenticity!

And to think that its oldest chalets are contemporaries of the Château de Versailles… As the French resort that has preserved the most evidence of this traditional way of life, Le Grand-Bornand invites you to imagine yourself as a modern-day Heidi, for a day of authenticity!

Or...

At weekends, head to the Bétemps and Vulliet bakeries to try bescoin, a soft brioche bun flavoured with aniseed and saffron that was loved by the Princes of Savoie and that is still offered to godchildren on the occasion of the Bornand patron saint’s day, which takes place on 15 August. The perfect way to reconcile gourmets and… gourmets!

Your afternoon

Visit a 400-year-old cottage… An authentic farmhouse that has survived the centuries, acquiring a patina that gives it all its cachet, the Maison du Patrimoine presents a collection of furniture, objects and costumes from yesteryear, skilfully staged. With light and shade, wood creaking and fire crackling in the fireplace, will you be able to find the scarcely believable date engraved upside down on the oldest beam of the venerable house? Here’s a clue… take the barn staircase!

On leaving the Maison du Patrimoine, cross the road and go past La Source, a place where you can explore the Alpe. Don’t miss the many workshops on offer for your children, as well as the cauldron merry-go-round, the giant bell and many other original creations. A fun, offbeat experience guaranteed!

Or else...

A one-hour family outing to the Pont des Romains. At a height of 20m and as its name suggests, the Pont des Romains, which spans the Nant du Chinaillon, is located on the old Roman road to the Col de la Colombière. As you walk along the Borne, you leave the leisure area and join an overgrown and then sparse path that leads to the Pont des Romains. This beautiful structure straddles the Chinaillon torrent, in a peaceful, cool setting.

The Plus

  • For lunch, stay close to the farms and choose a table from one of the restaurants in the Bouchet valley.
  • In the evening, enjoy the village atmosphere on one of the terraces of one of the bars for an aperitif, then savour one of our specialities in the cool of the summits facing the sunset in one of the mountain pasture or altitude restaurants.
